United States Army veteran Gustavo Guiterrez CRNA works today at the Orange County Multi-Specialty Surgery Center in California, where he is Director of Anesthesia. Guiterrez is a California boy through and through, since his birth in Artesia, California, a city in southeast Los Angeles County. The Mission San Gabriel Arcangel, founded in 1771, was near Tongva populations on a bluff which overlooked the Rio Hondo River, but flooding forced the mission to relocate to San Gabriel. Manuel Nieto, a former soldier, was granted a land concession in 1784 which stretched over much of present day Downey, and that Rancho Los Nietos was passed down to Nieto’s four children until 1833. The property was partitioned at that time, and the Rancho Santa Gertrudes which resulted contained the original Nietos homestead. Anglo-Americans began to buy into and marry into the families of the Californio Spanish after 1848, and the character of the area changed accordingly.

Gustavo Gutierrez CRNA Attends Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Benning Instruction
The U.S. Army Sapper Leader course taken by Army veteran Gustavo Gutierrez CRNA in 1992 is based at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Fort Leonard Wood was named in honor of General Leonard Wood, a former Chief of Staff in 1941. The post immediately became and engineer training post which helped further the creation of the Engineer Replacement Training Center, a mandate which was briefly interrupted by the confinement of Italian and German prisoners-of-war at Fort Leonard Wood. In 1999 was redesignated as the United States Army Maneuver Support Center when the U.S. Army Chemical Corps and Military Police Corps schools came to Fort Leonard as well.
